Sixth Regional Brain Injury Neurorehab Conference, 2015
Dr M Sakel as Global Ambassador of SWBF, chaired the Brain Injury Neurorehab Conference on 4th September at Kent & Canterbury Hospital, UK. Eminent speakers from Harvard, France, Sweden and UK presented cutting edge research in neuro-rehabilitation. Sir William Beveridge Foundation was represented by Karen Saunders, Global Neuro-therapy Advisor. Karen spoke of the various initiatives by SWBF for dementia & brain injury care. Julian Brazier MP, UK Defence Minister actively participated in the discussion related to brain injury in military veterans. Chris Bown, CEO of the hospital praised Dr Sakel’s research teams for innovative research programmes in Neuro-modulation and assistive technology. Dr Sakel thanked Lord Mayor of Canterbury & leads of various Patient Associations for continued support. The two brain injury PhD research projects were presented by Laura Smith. These studies are supervised by Dr Sakel & Dr Wilkinson. Their recent study of neuro-modulation in dementia is now at analysis stage. National leaders from brain injury forum of UK were impressed that SWBF will present 2 projects in the 2015 World Congress of Neurology, Chile. M Vince from UN Agency of Canterbury asserted the need to emphasize the views of patient & family when formulating policy & research.
