The Beveridge Society Lecture March 2008 – Toynbee Hall, London

“Dropping Beveridge’s Baton”
The Sir William Beveridge Foundation hosted a lecture on the future of UK welfare at Toynbee Hall in East London in March 2008. The keynote speaker was Frank Field MP, a respected and long-serving UK Member of Parliament who has worked tirelessly over the years in fighting poverty and the causes of poverty.
Mr Field’s address to the audience highlighted the areas where he believed Beveridge’s legacy expounded in his 1942 Report was being lost and he put forward some fairly radical ideas that he believed the UK government should consider to reform the UK welfare system. After his presentation, members of the audience were invited to ask questions that led to a lively discussion.
